USCCA’s Women’s Handgun & Self-Defense Fundamentals is a welcoming and engaging training program created by a woman for women who are seeking to begin, improve upon, or add to their firearms skills. With three distinct modules, this course is designed for students from the earliest beginners to those who are ready to learn more about defensive shooting. The three modules, taken as a whole, will begin to prepare you to carry confidently every day with tips and techniques from experienced women in the world of firearms.
Level 1 - Basic
Level 1 is designed for the brand new shooter or the woman who has never had any formal firearms training. Safety and understanding the fundamentals of pistol shooting are the goal for this module. We will do a number of “dry fire” exercises in the classroom to practice safety and basic pistol manipulation before ever hitting the range. Out on the range, the goal is to get those introductory shots down range and start to build good habits of safety and pistol handling & shooting fundamentals.
Student should bring:
- Pistol (rentals available)
- 50 rounds of appropriate ammunition
- Eye & Ear Protection
- Water/Beverage
- Pen & Notebook
Please wear close-toed shoes and avoid low cut blouses/shirts.
Level 2 - Intermediate
Level 2 in an intermediate level class for the woman who has mastered the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship. We will explore some of the various types of handguns available, discuss ammunition, take a look at holster options, and begin a discussion of the defensive mindset. Our range time will review the fundamentals and add to the essential skills already acquired in Level 1.
Prerequisite: USCCA WHSDF Level 1, Intro to Handgun, or equivalent (can include recommendation from private instructor)
Student should bring:
- Pistol (rentals available)

Level 3 - Defensive
The level 3 (Defensive) class is an advanced level class. In this final module of the series, we will introduce a number of advanced topics, skills and drills. Topics include a detailed explanation of what students should know about avoiding escaping, and defending against an attacker, and even what the student should know about their obligations under the law when it comes to the legal right to use force. We will explore methods of drawing a firearm including drawing from a holster or from a handbag. On and off range exercises will include learning how to use cover and concealment and even how to shoot on the move.
